What makes an awesome Coleader Series?

Coleader series are meant to serve youth workers that are on a time budget and need a fully loaded program, ready-to-go. Here are some tips to help make that happen:

  • Making sure all resources are fully edited and turnkey.

  • Loading files that can be available on both PC and Mac.

  • Including detailed notes to explain to the youth worker how to execute a seamless program in Creator Notes and within the blocks.

Primary goal of programming - every little detail was thought through to save the users time and make it easy to adapt and run that program/Series.

So, what are the next steps?

Create all Sessions for your Series in Coleader following the “Guidelines” below.

Ensure all content and uploaded resources are be ready to go and edited. Remember, whatever you are submitting will be representing you, so please make sure it’s lookin’ good!

Session Files

Within each Series will be one or more Sessions of programs. All files within a Session should be uploaded to the Blocks in the Session.

*If you are using a Featured Content Provider (a resource you have permission to use that is not your own), such as DYM, simply link to the resource under Resources —> Links on the Block. The Coleader team will attach the actual file.

Teaching Resource:

Your teaching resource must include a manuscript or an outline of at least 500 words as an uploaded resource on a Teaching Block.

Scriptures involved in Session teaching must be added to the “Scriptures” tab on the Teaching Block.

Teaching must be fully edited prior to submission. Remember, you are representing yourself as a Creator on Coleader, so you want your teaching to be ready for another youth worker to use it and love it.

Your Teaching Manuscript or Outline follows formatting:

  • 1-inch margins around the entire document (if a document is uploaded).

  • Personal illustrations removed or highlighted and noted for user to remix.

  • Verses highlighted in yellow.

  • Teacher notes highlighted in blue for clarity.

  • Each session is formatted consistently within the series.

  • Font must be an easily readable font (i.e, Arial, size 14)

Discussion Guide:

Questions for small group use/further discussion.

Notes for leaders for best practices.

Fun Elements:

  • Game must be fully edited.

  • Agreement from game author(s) to use within the session if you used a game that you didn’t create.

  • Detailed instructions for use.

  • The more turnkey, the better!

Any game on DYM can be used as a Featured Content Provider (reach out to [email protected] for information on royalty breakdown)

Formatting Blocks:

  • Every element involved in the program has it's own block with detailed instructions on how to make it happen.

    • Example: Introduction (include script, details, instructions), Game (include game files, details, instructions), etc.

  • Organize blocks in order of how the program will flow.

  • Include these Header blocks to break up the Program Flow for the user to see it clearly:

    • Session Prep: all files (such as graphics, social media) and actions (such as parent communications) each get a block under this section. The time for each block is set to 0 since it is not included in the actual Session overall time.

    • Pre-Session: Countdowns, team meetings, anything that happens immediately prior to the Session start. These blocks have time duration set to 0.

    • Session Start: The official start of the session. All blocks after this have set durations that are included with the overall Session time.

    • Game: Include fun elements.

    • Teaching: Include teaching files and blocks under header.

    • Small Group: Small group question blocks and activities

  • File names that are loaded into blocks should be the name of the element, followed by an underscore, and the Resource Type. It should like as is:

    • NameOfGame_Game.ppt

    • NameOfTeaching_TeachingScript.docx

    • NameOfTeaching_Presentation.pptx

    • The type of resource follows the dropdown in Coleader when loading a file.

Additional odds and ends

  • For any block prior to the Session start time, set duration to 0

  • For any block after start of the Session (after header Session Start), set a duration time to the best of your ability (this will automatically have a scheduled time once the Session is given a scheduled start time)

Ideas to Take Your Series to the Next Level

  • When including games (or activities) in your series, consider elevating your program by offering alternate gameplay instructions.

    • Ex. youth group doesn’t have a screen and you have a screen game in your program. Share how they could still play this game without a screen, or offer a different, themed game that requires no screen. This means any youth leader who downloads your series can easily make it work in their context. This same principle goes for other program elements, when possible offer modifications to make your series easy to replicate in any setting!

  • Create a preview video for the Series

  • Show off what’s included in the Series, and add under “Preview Assets” (via an unlisted or public YouTube or Vimeo link).

  • Include a Social Media plan and assets

    • Volunteer and part-time youth workers in particular will be challenged to create these on their own. This is an incredible way to serve these youth workers!

  • Call out in your “Creator Notes” when the youth worker should post to Social Media.

  • Include a Parent Communication plan and assets

  • There is no better way to help a youth worker look like a pro than parent communication. Give direction, and even email templates, the youth worker can use.

  • You can call out in your “Creator Notes” when the youth worker should send the communication.

  • Featured Content Providers are experts in their space, and can help your Series go to the next level. For information about royalty breakdown, reach out to [email protected].
